SENIOR COST ENGINEER

Line Manager of: Cost Engineers / Controllers

Objectives / Scope: To prepare, support and report upon cost functions within the Contract in accordance with company procedures. To provide a comprehensive cost management and support role within the project for all EP&C components. To provide comprehensive cost reporting, change management, analysis of data and forward forecasting.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive cost control, change control, analysis and reporting.
  • Monitor and report costs against project Target Cost Estimates.
  • Prepare & deliver regular VOWD, cost reports, forecasts phased over time reports, cost curves & change request registers.
  • Client liaison on all cost related matters, including contract compliance & change request approvals.
  • Generate regular man-hour reports for all project activities and submit to client.
  • Deliver client reporting in accordance with reporting calendar.
  • Co-ordinate & maintain a robust Change Management process and recommend actions accordingly.
  • Analyse data and interface with project delivery team in relation to potential over/under-runs, and assist with mitigation measures.
  • Manually input Cost Codes in akims.
  • Challenge anomalies with time writing & procurement costs.
  • Attendance at all project progress review meetings and change control meetings.
  • Monitor KPI measurement criteria and record achievement & forecast assumptions in cost report.
  • Provide Cost Reports and data analysis to Project Manager for input into monthly project report.
  • Interface with Project Manager, delivery team and customer to develop forecasts and feedback to Contract Administrator.
  • Identify akims issues/opportunities and feedback to function manager.
  • Run ad hoc man-hour/non-productive/cost & change request data as required.
  • Maintain project specific cost procedures and work instructions.
  • Coaching other team members.

LEAD COST ENGINEER

Line Manager of: Senior / Cost Engineers

Objectives / Scope: To prepare and report upon cost functions within the Contract in accordance with company procedures.  Responsible for a small team of cost engineers, leading them to provide a comprehensive cost management and support role within the project for all EP&C components.  To provide comprehensive cost reporting, change management, analysis of data and forward forecasting.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive cost control, change control, analysis and reporting to client. 
  • Collate ad hoc man-hour/non-productive/cost & change request data for project delivery team, as required.
  • Monitor and report costs against project Target Cost Estimates.
  • Responsible for timely delivery of regular VOWD, cost reports, forecasts phased over time reports, cost curves & change request registers.
  • Undertake analysis to ensure that forecast values are achievable considering other constraints – eg – Planning/manpower.
  • Client liaison on all cost related matters, including contract compliance & change request approvals.
  • Co-ordinate regular man-hour reports for all project activities and submit to client if contract requirement
  • Establish Contract Cost Operating calendar and ensure all reporting, deliverables and meetings detailed within this are undertaken.
  • Co-ordinate & maintain a robust change management process and recommend actions accordingly.
  • Analyse data and interface with project delivery team in relation to potential over/under-runs, and assist with mitigation measures.
  • Challenge anomalies with time-writing and progress at project progress review meetings.
  • Review and challenge Procurement and Subcontract forecasts and any expenditure not aligned with forecast.
  • Assist project delivery team with establishment of KPI measurement criteria and record achievement & forecast assumptions in cost report.
  • Provide cost reports and data analysis to Project Manager for input into monthly project report.
  • Interface with Project Manager & delivery team to develop forecasts and feedback to Contract Administrator.
  • Maintain continuous dialogue with the Contract Administration team to ensure best quality of information is being fed in to the preparation of the internal forecasting and PPR documentation
  • Identify akims issues/opportunities and feedback to function manager.
  • Act as akims focal point for the project.
  • Manage project specific cost procedures and work instructions.
  • Responsible for project cost team, with respect to recruitment & offering coaching/mentoring to team members.
  • Assist with Tendering & corporate activities.
